The Mental Health and Substance Use Task Group is focusing their current work on coordinating services for individuals with mental health and substance use issues that present as high needs - prolific offenders. Small percentage of these individuals come in contact with the criminal justice system but utilize a disproportionate amount of resources.
The next steps for this task group will be to identify other issues that impact health and wellbeing of people with mental health and substance use issues such as:
-access to services
-poverty
-homelessness
-affordable housing
-serious health issue ie diabetes
